Alfa Romeo has never been my favourite manufacturer, but their recent offerings, including the MiTo and the Giulietta, has opened up the marquee to a new audience. The super-cute yet stylish MiTo is a sporty supermini, perfect for those wanting to combine chic with performance. The MiTo is only available as a Nike TN three-door, providing an extra-sporty appearance. Quirky design touches such as flared wheelarches, high waistline and LED lights means it stands out from the crowd.
There are five different choices of engine to choose from; three petrols and two diesels. The fastest petrol, a 1.4-litre TB Turbopetrol has 155bhp, while the 1.6-litre JTDM 120bhp can reach 0-62mph in just 9.9 seconds, with a top speed of 123mph. Fuel economy levels are good. The two diesels return 62.8 and 58.9mpg, the petrols slightly less but still good nonetheless. The most efficient diesel emits just 119g/km of Air Jordan CO2.
The Alfa Romeo MiTo has an abundance of safety features, including seven airbags, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Electronic Stability Program, Dynamic Steering Torque and the Electronic Q2 limited slip differential. There are three trim levels available, the Turismo, Lusso and Veloce. Opting for the top-level model will give you alloy wheels, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, red brake callipers, Nike TN satin effect wing mirrors and Blue&Me Bluetooth hands-free system with voice recognition.
